Sharon Took-Zozaya is a choreographer, physical theatre artist, dancer and teacher, currently working both indoors and in the landscape. This has led to choreographing, performing and teaching across Scotland, in the USA, and abroad across a wide variety of professional, educational and community contexts, working with dancers of all ages in inclusive environments.
Her creative practice shapes movement sourced in authentic experience into performances that offer viewers new perspectives on the human condition, whether lighthearted or more serious. Informed by contemporary dance techniques, dance and theatre improvisation, yoga, guided imagery and somatic practices, her work often includes elements of character, narrative, text and recently, video.
Based in the Findhorn Ecovillage since 2018, she has increasingly explored live outdoor performances, as well as producing many live and hybrid performance events in The Universal Hall.
Finding Petunia LittleTree, her most recent physical theatre solo, has been performed at The Universal Hall, Citymoves’ DanceLive Festival, the Eden Court's One Touch theatre, and Central Primary School since premiering at the Findhorn Bay Festival 2022. Creation of this piece was supported by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland, Surge, Citymoves and The Work Room, with in-kind support from Dance North, Hinterland Trust and Park Ecovillage Trust (PET).
Shadows and Dappled Light, a cross art form work, was presented at DanceLive in 2021. In 2019 she danced the Swan in Buke of the Howlat at the Findhorn Bay Arts Festival and supported the choreographic process. She also performed in and provided choreographic support for Bloom, a multigenerational piece at the Eden Court's Gala. While based in California 2003-2017, her work appeared in several
San Francisco Bay Area festivals.
